Tactical Pistol Courses

 

I) Basic Tactical Pistol Courses:

Prerequisite: None

This is a two-day class introduces the student to Defensive Pistol Craft and focuses on weapon deployment from the holster. It is designed to enhance and broaden the skills of individuals already competent in the basic operation of their pistol. Topics include (but are not limited to):

  • Firearms safety

  • Fundamentals of shooting

  • Technique

  • Discuss the use of deadly force

  • Weapon presentation from the holster (concealed and open)

  • One and two handed shooting

  • Threats from the side(s) or behind

  • Shooting on the move

  • Use of cover and concealment

  • Shooting from various body positions

  • Tactical and emergency/combat reloads

  • Weapon retention shooting positions

  • Legal aspects surrounding use of deadly force

  • Color code of awareness and the OODA loop

Required equipment:

  • Eye and Ear protection (electronic hearing protection is strongly recommended)

  • A pistol or revolver 38cal 9mm or larger (rental handguns are available with prior notice)

  • 300 rounds of ammunition

  • Holster

  • Magazine pouch

  • Minimum three magazines (5 is better)

  • Speed loaders or speed strips

  • Wear a sturdy belt

  • Suitable range wear

  • Cover Garment

II) Advanced Tactical Pistol Courses:

Prerequisite: Basic Tactical Pistol

This two day course is designed to introduce the student to the realities of fighting in and around vehicles. Students will be expected to be competent with their primary weapon; therefore, emphasis will be placed on how to prevail when other than ideal conditions exist. This will be a fast paced, physically demanding course. THIS IS NOT A BASIC COURSE. Secondary/backup weapons are recommended.

Skills/tactics covered will include, but are not limited to:

  • Basic functions and safety

  • Loading/unloading/malfunction clearing

  • Shooting/fighting from retention

  • Weapons transitions

  • Positional shooting/use of cover/non-traditional shooting positions

  • Supported and unsupported shooting positions

  • Multiple target engagement

  • Shooting on the move

  • Tactical movement & communication

  • Threat identification/management (shoot/no shoot)

Required equipment:

  • Eye and Ear protection (electronic hearing protection is strongly recommended)

  • A pistol or revolver 38cal 9mm or larger (rental handguns are available with prior notice)

  • 400 rounds of ammunition

  • Holster

  • Magazine pouch

  • Minimum three magazines (5 is better)

  • Speed loaders or speed strips

  • Wear a sturdy belt

  • Cover Garment

  • Suitable range wear

  • Recommended additional equipment:

  • Secondary/backup weapon

  • 100 rounds ammunition for secondary weapon

  • Holster and magazine pouches for backup pistol

  • Hat or head covering

  • Note taking materials (pen and paper)

  • Personal water supply

  • Bag lunch/snack

  • Knee and elbow pads
